Superior Protection Against Engine Wear
Marine engines operate under high loads and RPMs for extended periods of time, causing traditional automotive oils to break down and lose viscosity. To ensure good protection, the NMMA set minimum shear stability requirements for FC-W. AMSOIL Formula 4-Stroke® Marine Synthetic Motor Oil greatly exceeds the FC-W shear stability requirements, outperforming competitive oils to deliver a superior lubricating film. Formula 4-Stroke® Synthetic Oil also contains robust anti-wear additives that further reduce wear in metal-to-metal contact regions (see Four-Ball Wear Test graph).

Excellent Anti-Rust Performance
Marine engines are prone to rust, leading to uncontrolled wear and premature engine failure. However, good rust protection is not natural to engine oil. It comes only by design. Formula 4-Stroke® Marine Synthetic Motor Oil is fortified with a special anti-rust agent, even more than required to pass stringent NMMA FC-W anti-rust testing.

While automobile engines normally operate at around 2,500 rpm, outboard motors can run twice as fast, requiring greater levels of wear protection and better bearing durability than automobiles. In addition, prolonged idling and low operating temperatures contribute to fuel dilution, further thinning the oil. To ensure adequate protection for their engines, marine engine manufacturers set minimum high temperature/high shear (HTHS) viscosity limits. AMSOIL Formula 4-Stroke® Marine Synthetic Motor Oils are shear stable and formulated with sophisticated oil additive chemistry, exceeding the HTHS requirements of both the API and NMMA FC-W (see graph).

HPI

HPI  Injector Synthetic 2-Cycle Oil (HPI)
Excellent for all outboard motors with a performance emphasis on modern direct fuel injected (DFI) technology. Also recommended for personal watercraft, jet boats, motorcycles, snowmobiles and ATVs. Injector use or 50:1 premix.
NMMA TC-W3, API TC

  • Superior performance in DFI outboard motors
  • Reduces piston and combustion chamber deposits
  • Protects against "ring jacking" common to DFI outboards
  • Low smoke, low odor product
  • Contains up to 30 percent more additives for "super clean" operation
  • Reduces wear for long engine life
  • Protects against rust
  • Multi-functional and recommended for use in many two-cycle motors
  • Low aquatic toxicity
  • Recommended for use as injection oil or at a 50:1 pre-mix

hp Injector is a precise synthetic formulation that exceeds the lubrication demands of modern two-cycle motors. Today's two-cycle outboard motors operate at higher temperatures and at leaner oil and fuel ratios than older motors. This difficult operating environment requires proper lubrication technology to keep motors running long and strong. hp Injector is a premium lubricant engineered with AMSOIL synthetic base oils and MAXDOSE advanced additives. It contains up to 30 percent more additives than other TC-W3 two-cycle oils for "super clean" operation. And because AMSOIL synthetic oils are more durable, they are perfect for lean mixture operations. In addition, this AMSOIL exclusive product produces low smoke and odor and has low aquatic toxicity properties, making it ideal for boats.

hp Injector improves engine life. It helps prevent deposits that cause ring sticking and ring jacking (carbon build-up behind the ring, forcing it outward), a phenomenon that occurs in modern DFI outboard motors. hp Injector reduces wear. It has excellent lubricity properties and provides a good lubricating oil film, protecting pistons and bearings. hp Injector protects against rust, an important feature where motors are subjected to water. hp Injector provides superior performance in direct fuel injected (DFI), electronic fuel injected (EFI) and carbureted outboard motors, as well as other recreational equipment.

Applications (see Two-Cycle Recommendations Chart)
hp Injector is recommended for use in all two-cycle outboard motors including, but not limited to, Mercury® EFI & Optimax®, Johnson® and Evinrude® FICHT® and E-TECTM, Yamaha® HPDI, Nissan® and Tohatsu® TLDI®, Suzuki®, Mariner® and Force®. Also recommended for use in all two-cycle personal watercraft and jet boats, as well as snowmobiles, motorcycles and ATVs.

Use as injection oil or as 50:1 pre-mix (2.6 oz. per U.S. gallon of gas) where NMMA TC-W3 or API TC oils are specified. Compatible with mineral and synthetic TC-W3-type two-cycle oils, however, mixing two-cycle oils should be minimized.

BMK-18 continued

Product Description
The Marine Dual Remote Filtration System (BMK-18) offers easily accessible remote mounting capability for a full flow spin-on oil filter and a spin-on style by-pass oil filter. This unique combination of both full flow and by-pass filtration on a single mounting manifold is the only system of this kind designed specifically for marine applications.

Improved Performance
The effects of marine engines running predominantly at or near full throttle after extended periods of non-activity include high operating temperatures and increased potential for wear on engine components. Dual remote filtration is a highly efficient filtering process capable of removing the vast majority of wear-causing particles which are in the 5-20 micron range. Dual remote filtration also has the ability to effectively remove particles down to one micron in size. The AMSOIL Marine Dual Remote Filtration System (BMK-18) offers a clear advantage by providing better oil filtration, increased oil capacity and longer oil and filter life.

Reduces Heat
The BMK-18 requires a one- to two-quart oil volume increase, offering increased oil cooling capabilities. The additional hoses, fittings, filters and aluminum mount assemblies also allow the engine oil to dissipate heat more efficiently as it passes through the filtration system, extending the service life of both the engine and the engine oil. Finally, the BMK-18 by-pass filter has the ability to remove condensation and moisture from the lubrication system.

Prevents Moisture
Moisture typically condenses inside engines to combine with residual combustion gases when engines are idle or run for short periods of time, especially in humid environments. The resulting compounds strip beneficial additives from engine oil and act as corrosive substances that further degrade the engine oil and promote engine wear.

Outstanding Durability
The Marine Dual Remote Filtration System is designed to be used in harsh marine environments. The hose fittings are coated with a 3 ml layer of AlumiplateTMand 1 ml of zinc and yellow chromate. This Alumiplate coating is 10 times more corrosion resistant than standard zinc and yellow chromate plated fittings. While standard hydraulic fittings typically survive 96 hours in the grueling ASTM B-117 Salt Spray Test, the Alumiplate coated AMSOIL Marine Bypass System fittings lasted over 1,000 hours. In addition, the fasteners and mounting bracket are stainless steel and the hoses are U.S. Coast Guard approved.

Fewer Oil Changes
Depending on the boat owner's hours of use, the improved filtration of the Marine Dual Remote System, along with the use of AMSOIL synthetic lubricants, could completely eliminate oil and filter changes during a typical boating season. With marine engines located in a relatively confined and remote space within the watercraft, ease of filter access and reduced oil spillage are also significant benefits of the BMK-18.

The remote mount of the BMK-18 is also compatible with the new AMS-OilerTM Oil Precharger (AMK-01) for added engine protection during the frequent dry starting that is typical of marine engines that sit idle for even short periods of time.

Applications
A large number of marine diesel engines have by-pass oil filtration systems installed by the engine manufacturer. Until now, however, this technology has not been available to smaller pleasure boats and light commercial marine applications. The Marine Dual Remote Filtration System was specifically designed for recreational and commercial marine applications that use inboard or inboard/outboard stern drive engines.

The BMK-18 is packaged in kit form, which includes the Dual filter mount, mounting hardware, hoses, hose fittings, component parts and installation instructions. In addition, adapter kits of four different sizes enable the BMK-18 to be installed on a wide variety of recreational and light commercial marine gasoline-fueled engines, including Chris Craft, Chrysler, Crusader, Evinrude, Johnson, Gray Marine, Mercruiser, OMC, Pleasurecraft, Universal, Volvo Penta, and Westerbeke. The BMK-18 kit offers a new heavy duty, machined aluminum adapter and retaining nut that fits on the existing oil filter mount. Each adapter kit is application specific and must be ordered separately. Please consult BMK-18 Adapter Kit Reference Guide (G-2051) for specific applications. Adapter kits are available for the most popular filter thread sizes. When ordering the BMK-18 request one of the following adapter kits:

Also, for ease of installation in some applications, optional 90 degree fittings (BK-199 and BK-200) can be mounted on the filter adapter collar. These parts are also sold separately.

The AMSOIL Marine Dual Remote Filtration System represents the cutting edge of filtration technology-another example of AMSOIL's commitment to providing quality innovations that can benefit consumers everywhere.

Marine gear oils operate in environments subject to water contamination. The chart below demonstrates the ability of AMSOIL Universal Synthetic Marine Gear Lube to maintain designed qualities such as extreme pressure/anti-wear performance and resistance to foaming, even when subjected to 10% water contamination.

The Falex Procedure is measurement of a gear lube's extreme pressure and anti-wear properties. A high value in the Falex Extreme Pressure Test relates to extra extreme pressure protection. AMSOIL Universal Synthetic Marine Gear Lube is not affected by water and provides 50% more extreme pressure protection for long gear and bearing life.

The presence of foam in a lubricant disrupts oil film and promotes wear. Water contamination can increase the likelihood of foaming. Industry standard testing demonstrates zero foam in both new and water-contaminated AMSOIL Universal Synthetic Marine Gear Lube. Other conventional gear lubes can foam when mixed with water, as seen in the graph.
